Project 7

Project 7

Project 7 was a magazine cover that was designed for a themed travel magazine. My magazine was designed to be a haunted themed magazine to advertise different multiple haunted attractions around the world. The cover is from the Catacombs of Rome and I decided to make the skull black and white compared to the others because I thought it would make it seem more ghostly and would catch the reader's eye.

  1. The ghosted skull does catch our eyes!! Would you consider ghosting the magazine title "Haunted Globe" a bit too? To add a bit more color contrast to the cover, you could also try to use a light tan rather than white for that title. It would be worth a try to see what that looks like. The lower block of text with the underline is probably too close to the bottom edge of the design. I wonder if it should simply be styled in the same way as the other "call outs" that sit at the left and pulled up to sit with them?

  2. Although I do like the layout you have, it feels a bit cluttered to the left and I'm not sure if the white skull is really enough to balance it. Also, this might just be me but the lines underneath the headlines feel a bit heavy. Maybe tune down the stroke a little bit?

  3. Really cool idea to play with the colors of the skull to make it more haunted. I see what Jake means about it feeling cluttered, the lines are definitely too heavy. I think it would also help if the multi-line article names fit into a sort of square. For example, you could reduce Spooktacular's point size so its left and right ends line up with Specter Sites (also adjust the the leading because right now the descenders of Spooktacular poke the line below). The same could be done with Rome's Ancient Catacombs.

  4. To make it seem more haunted I think if this was darkened more while preserving the outline of the skulls it would work even more with the white text.

  5. The black and white skull does really help draw the eye. The overall design is very nice.
