I do think it's cool but I don't know if it really shows off your design skills. What if you tried incorporating the logo and search bar into the background maybe through masking or putting something (like debris) infront of them. Just a thought, looks cool tho!
I agree with Jake about considering a redesign of how the logo and search bar could appear. It is also important to make sure you are not covering up the most iconic, and visually recognizable part of the tornado: the place where the downspout extends out of the cloud. Consider placing the logo/search bar higher on the page. Consider using a more dramatic lighting on the figure in the field (too dark, can't see them). This is meant to be a dramatic moment, right? Exaggerate the visual effects!

I agree with what was said before. I would also say that the image in general is just a little too dark, it's hard to make out a lot of the main elements besides the Google logo.
