Project 8

This is a self project, i drew this a long time ago and thought i could bring it to life and though it is not done yet i'm not quite satisfied with it, I know the objects don't fit in too well yet, i tried to give it a more underwater look by using a ghost box set to low opacity over the whole image. (it is not shown in this image) I was thinking of maybe just scanning my original and adding color to it digitally.

  1. An interesting idea and I do like the concept. Although it could be improve by making everything more pronounced. Put a good shine on the pearl to grab attention.

  2. I agree with Dan about the shine. Definitely leveling out the colors so they don't all look like they're from different images would help as well. Are you planning to add some text to this?

  3. Please continue with this, because it really shows your drawing skills as well as your digital skills, and how one translates into the other. I'm not convinced that just adding a top layer of color will do what you want it to do, although it is something you might add as a last step. Instead first do some color correction to neutralize your black, white, and then neutral points (Curves) and that will help immediately I think.

Next would be to consider what story you want to tell. I see a claw reaching towards the pearl... and a star fish crawling up from the bottom. Is the star fish also heading to the pearl? Is this a race? I'm not sure this is what you were thinking, but it IS what I see already happening.

Identifying the story will help you exaggerate some aspects of the composition. Should the claw be larger and more menacing? Should the star fish be more noticeable? Should the oyster with the pearl be balanced more believably on that brain coral? Small shifts in position and size will help the story become more evident, and interesting.

After the composition improves, you can think about lightening and darkening some elements and adding caste shadows... that will help the elements be more fully integrated into the same scene with the same light source.

This is absolutely worth more time, it will be a strong piece in my opinion.
